Making Your Own Skin Care Products With Essential Oils For Added Benefit

young living oilsYou don’t have to pay big bucks for name brand skin care products when you know a few basics about mixing up your own formulations. Using essential oils in the products that you create is a good way to customize them for whatever condition you want to treat as well as make them pleasurable and relaxing to use.

Having a good base recipe for a hand and face cream is a good start that you can add any essential oil to depending on what mood you want to create. Combine ¾ cup of sweet almond oil with 1/3 cup of coconut oil and a ¼ teaspoon of lanolin. Grate about an ounce of beeswax into the mixture and heat the whole thing in a double boiler until the solid oils and wax have melted and begin to combine. Be careful not to overheat the oils, heat just until they liquefy and then transfer them to a blender. Blend on high until they become thick and creamy. Add up to 6 or 7 drops of essential oil for an aromatic blend that will refresh or relax as desired. Use lavender, rose, chamomile or bergamot for bedtime creams that will promote calm and prepare you for restful sleep. If you want a bright smelling lotion that will energize and stimulate you mentally, try lemon balm, eucalyptus, or grapefruit oils in your cream.

You can also make a nice oil blend that is suitable for massaging onto your face before bedtime that is relaxing and will promote restful sleep. Combine 4 ounces of sweet almond oil, grapeseed or olive oil in a glass jar with a few drops of lavender and rose essential oils. Right before bed, place a small amount of oil in the palm of your hands and rub them together to warm the oil. Then apply to the face in circular motions starting with the cheeks and working your way out to the temples and the neck. Pinch gently along your eyebrows from the inside corner of the eye out to the far side several times. Inhale deeply of the aroma from the oil and don’t forget to include your neck. The scent of the oil will remain on your pillowcase and help you rest easier even when you don’t use the oil.
